The Western Bay of Plenty Primary Health Organisation approached Mohawk Media to develop an interactive e-learning tool for registered healthcare professionals and support workers such as Whānau Ora practitioners, Māori health providers and lead maternity carers to manage discussions around weight management, using ‘motivational interviewing’.
The brief was to create content that would appeal to clients including those from Māori & Pacific communities, based on the most up to date information on nutrition, health, weight assessment and the associated optimal exercise. The project has proved successful with positive feedback from GPs, and some clients achieved ‘extreme weight loss’ of over 10 kgs or 5% of body weight.
Mohawk Media worked with health professionals using recent medical research and peer-reviewed studies to provide Instructional Design, draft scripts, characters and a series of health animations.
The team produced a blend of the animated presenter and whiteboard animations, hosted on a mini-site connected to the Ministry of Health’s Navigator, with extra reading, online tests, certificate, and Comprehensive Assessment Tool to fill out with clients.
The animations contain effective tips and guidelines on nutrition and exercise, and the assessment tool enables health professionals to support their clients in creating effective action plans.
