Crowdfund Your Creativity
Submitted by Mohawk Media on Tue, 16/06/2009 - 18:27
The concept of Crowdsourcing has been in vogue for some time with the media making open calls for content and input from audiences. Now independent filmmakers, musicians and other creative types are harnessing communities of fans to microfinance, or 'Crowdfund' their creative projects. The Renaissance would not have happened without the support of the Medici family, and crowdfunding is a modern way to become a Patron of the Arts.

Screencasting Tools
Submitted by Mohawk Media on Fri, 24/04/2009 - 16:39
One of the most rewarding things in life is sharing knowledge and experience. Years ago this took place in schools or guilds but now anyone can learn online with how to guides and tutorials. If you want to join in the global knowledge swap, then a good place to start is with screencasting tools. Learning to shoot, edit and produce a video takes time and a wide range of skills, but a screencast can be filmed live and easily published. There is a growing demand for knowledge shared online both paid for and free, and you may even find a new income from publishing your expertise.

Alternative Search Engines to Google
Submitted by Ms Behaviour on Tue, 20/01/2009 - 21:31
It is very easy to forget with the omnipresence of the Google search engine that there are other ways to find digital media and information online. Makeuseof.com has a list of 13 Alternative Search Engines That Find What Google Can’t which is well worth delving into.
Some of the more cutting edge search tools have come from music engines. Search tools such as Tunefind may help create new music sales, by helping viewers match tracks they hear and like from television shows or films. I'm also finding some interesting new visual search tools such as Search-cube.com.
I love quotes as they save you having to think, so enjoyed spending some time searching Quotiki. A search for 'happy' gave me this gem: "As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death."
Wikipedia also has a comprehensive list of the wide range of specialised and meta search engine tools now available. It just goes to show the wide number of ways that you can navigate online without following the Google herd.
