Queenstown Cops Catch Robber on Facebook
Submitted by Chelfyn on Tue, 27/01/2009 - 22:30
An unsuccessful young safecracker in Queenstown caught on security film, was later busted by a tip off on Facebook. An enterprising police officer Constable Sean Drader has set up a Facebook page, and is delighted at the amount of tip offs he is getting from the public online.
"What the Queenstown police are doing is leveraging the power of what we call 'crowd sourcing'," says digital commentator Helen Baxter, "which is to use the wisdom of the crowd, the community, to get people to be able to tell them what they know."
So if you grab a handbag, do a dine and dash, jump a taxi fare or generally are an a**hole in Q'town then watch out, you may find yourself with international fame of entirely the wrong sort. Watch the clip from Campbell Live, TV3.

A massive thank-you to ALT presenters & staff both past and present - if it wasn't for your on-going support we could never had made such a fantastic little treasure. Let's wrap into the xmas party as well - hell let's just party aye!"
